Lower prices, fewer streams, more to love
Paid subscribers of "The Night Light" are getting bonus months FREE
Hey there: thanks for your patience while I took time to regroup, strategize and travel. I’ll be streaming again this Wednesday, May 8th, but some changes are on the way.
MEMBERSHIP PRICES DROPPING: After a little research on what other successful Substack writers are charging, I’ve lowered my subscription prices.
Effective immediately, here are the new rates:
MONTHLY: from $8/month ↘️ to $5/month
YEARLY: from $80/year ↘️ to $50/year
FOUNDING: from $240/year ↘️ to $150/year
Hopefully this will ease subscription fatigue, especially for all my free subscribers who’ve considered showing their support.
To my paid subscribers: funding independent content is a powerful vote of confidence. You mean the world to me. I’ve already comped you some free bonus months as a way of saying Thank You.
LIVESTREAMS: The streams will return on Wednesday, May 8th. After Friday, May 10th, I’ll stream once a week (vote for which night I should stream below). I hate making this choice — these streams built a smart, fun, kind audience, and I treasure that. Still, I believe it’s the right move until I can build a staff. Ask Me Anything! livestreams will still happen monthly, separate from the regular shows.
MORE CONTENT IN MORE PLACES: Scaling back the streams gives me more bandwidth for Substack articles, YouTube videos, podcasts and produced shorts. Paid subscribers will get extended interviews, additional written pieces, your questions answered in my monthly Ask Me Anything! livestreams, and you’ll get YouTube segments before the general public.

Also, thanks for all the kind words this week! I received an award from my alma mater, the University of Miami School of Communication. I also gave a lecture entitled “What Journalists Can Do That A.I. Cannot”.
Miami left me full of hope after meeting UM’s amazing students, and heaviness for the task ahead of me. You’ll find my thoughts on it all in the latest “From My Heart” post linked below (fair warning: it’s a long read).
Enjoy your weekend, and I’ll see you this Wednesday at 7pm for the livestream.
