Unfortunately relate really hard to this. Thank you for putting it into words… it’s a cloud that has been hanging over me for years and it makes me feel completely crazy. The maga fanatics are going to do what they do… it’s the so called“good” people who quietly support them … or still break bread with these people like it’s normal and acceptable… that’s what probably frustrates me the most. There should be more social consequences for supporting fascism. Exactly as you said …I just haven’t found a productive place to channel the rage.
So good! Thank you! Hope I can be as civil! Even knowing how unengaged our electorate is, even knowing how consistently Fox News helps pump MAGA, I don’t understand why the race is close at all.
I think you will find your exact same feelings stated by the MAGA folk about the current party in the WH folk, just going the other way. The trick is to remember that an election is not a marriage proposal, so you can be entirely unemotional about making your choice. Then read across the spectrum of perspectives. I really like AllSides.com as a place to surface news stories that are either not being covered by my preferred side or are being covered in a misleading way. Paired with Media Bias/Fact Check, I get a pretty clear view of what is actually happening on a topic, which is soothing.
Yep….I hear you loud and clear. During Trumps presidency, I had a “ Not my President “ sticker on my car for awhile. I ended up removing it after repeated incidents of horn honking, finger flipping and other automotive theatrics. What I found interesting was that their reactions bespoke a level of anger and resentment towards me that I hadn’t anticipated. I had naively assumed that as their candidate had won, that they would be more gleeful and less hostile going forward. I have since come to believe that the Maga movement, much like the Tea Party before them, represents a giant “FU” to a system perceived to be unfair and personified by “Big Government“ as the bogeyman. What angers me is that DJT is the personification of the Maga symbolism and his acolytes see him as their David. It could almost be laughable if the stake’s weren’t so high. Reason, consideration and kindness will probably not win the day. But…if a longing for “joy” inspires more people to go to the polls and vote, if even to restore a sense of hope and tone down this Maga madness, it’s a good thing. We all need to remember that it’s a government of the people, by the people, for the people. Let the conversation begin.
I’m a gay black male democrat who works in a predominantly red district. I understand your anger, and please know that you’re not alone in what you’re feeling. Thank you, cause you have helped me deal with the rage and frustration I’ve been dealing with. I hear things like “anyone who would vote for that woman is STUPID” and it just enrages me, but I’m in the service industry so I have to remain civil. So again I thank you Joshua for helping me suss out my own feelings.💜☮️🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️
Joshua thank you! For doing what you need to do to get through this time, to take care of yourself. For in your being authentic and honest, I and I assert others, can now do the same.
For the past year or two I have had 2 Facebook profiles. One is for my professional life. Because I am the admin for all of the social media platforms that my organization uses, I have only allowed my friends and family to be able to see the other FB profile (Timbo) where I get to say what I really want to say about the MAGA madness and their hatred. And some of my family and friends that are in my Timbo Friends group are wearing those red hats. I periodically (about twice a week) post a reel of images that shows the ridiculousness of the GOP campaign and their lies. It’s my outlet to keep myself from going absolutely batshit crazy. And I also find myself not liking some of the thoughts that I think about “those people” -some of them being my brothers and cousins.
So thank you for this because it makes me feel better to know that I am not alone and that you are not either!! Big hug from Miami my friend!

Joshua I can totally understand how that experience could result in a semi-meltdown. I am not exposed to that sort of thing and very sad to see it
