Preventing Another January 6th: My Memories of the Insurrection

On January 6, 2021 I was an anchor for NBC News. I watched helplessly as my colleagues were in mortal danger at the United States Capitol, trying to avoid an angry mob who was convinced that the presidential election had been stolen from them. Here are my memories from that day, and what I learned about the violence that ensued.

How do we prevent that from happening again? I’ll give you a hint: making logical arguments won’t do a damn thing. Fortunately, there’s something else that will: accepting that people are emotional and letting behavioral science work its magic. It worked for Donald Trump… so why not for you?
