IN THIS EPISODE:
Gen Z is not happy about the future. They’re pessimistic about the future of democracy (as usual), and they fear speaking their minds. What’s going on? And what might we do to keep teens and twenty-somethings from giving up on tomorrow? One clue might lie in what they see on TikTok, especially as it relates to the Israel/Hamas war. You might be shocked at how easy it is for a 13-year-old to end up in an online rabbit hole of graphic images and disinformation.
Also, what does that war have to do with rebels attacking ships off the coast of Yemen? Plenty for the world’s economies. It’s another war the world mostly ignores that’s finally got our attention. The impact could affect the price of all kinds of consumer goods: from gasoline to Abercrombie jeans, to your next couch from IKEA. I’ll break down why it’s happening and how the US is responding: Operation Prosperity Guardian.
And finally, Walt Disney said “It all started with a mouse.” That mouse is about to go into the public domain, for anyone to use as they see fit. No, not Mickey: Willie. More on Disney’s failed fight to keep Steamboat Willie copyrighted, and my take on what it should do now. I think there’s a lesson for all of us in how to speak our values in ways that can last.
