(ANNOUNCEMENT #1) EX-EVANGELICALS: SHARE WHAT YOU KNOW

Next week I’m interviewing NPR’s Sarah McCammon about her new book, “The Exvangelicals: Loving, Living, and Leaving the White Evangelical Church”. It explores the experiences of people who’ve walked away from this powerful religious movement, including her own struggles growing up in it. I’d love to add your questions and personal stories to the conversation. Share what you know about evangelical Christianity today. Comment on this post, or email joshua@nightlightshow.com. Thanks!

(ANNOUNCEMENT #2) ASK ME ANYTHING! TUESDAY, MARCH 6, 7P ET

Our next “Ask Me Anything!” is coming up. This time, I’m doing it a little differently. As before, paid subscribers will be able to submit questions, either through the live chat on YouTube, by email or in advance here on Substack. I’ll share the link soon with all paid subscribers.

But I’ll also make the live stream available for anyone to watch, regardless of whether they subscribe or not. My hope is that everyone who supports The Night Light will have the benefit of enjoying this lively, candid discussion as they see fit. Whether you’re a casual viewer, an active participant, an occasional listener or you’re just getting to know me, I’m so blessed that you consider this worth your time. The more chances for us to connect, the better.

IN THIS EPISODE…

“Feisty”. That word keeps coming up in describing Pres. Biden’s 2024 State of the Union address. Meanwhile, Donald Trump hosted authoritarian Viktor Orban of Hungary at Mar-A-Lago. And Republicans voted in Lara Trump as the Party’s co-chair. I’ll have the latest.

If the humanitarian crisis in Gaza matters to you, there's another such calamity right off America's shores. Haiti is closer than ever to literally becoming a failed nation, with a deep health crisis made worse by uncontrolled gang warfare. I'll give you a quick summary of what's going on.

Plus this weekend is the 70th anniversary of Edward R. Murrow's famous commentary against Sen. Joseph McCarthy at the height of America's "red scare". It was a powerful moment for democracy, but it also teaches us something about how change actually comes about. If you're worried that Donald Trump could bring the end of democracy, you definitely need to hear this.
