The case for Donald Trump's "absolute immunity"/WcDonald's blends manga with McNuggets

IN THIS EPISODE:

This week attorneys for former President Donald Trump laid out his legal argument for “absolute immunity” from criminal prosecution over the January 6th insurrection. I’m no lawyer, but it doesn’t take much to see that his argument has some pretty big holes.

Also this week, McDonald’s released the final part of a unique marketing push, acknowledging the anime parody WcDonald’s. The campaign might do a lot for the fast food chain… but did it do enough for this beloved artform?

Remember, my next “Ask Me Anything!” is this coming Tuesday, March 26th, at 7pm ET. Paid subscribers can submit questions, but this time the AMA will be available for anyone to watch live or on-demand. A link and instructions will be in tomorrow’s post.

Also, keep an eye out for an update to this Substack. Expect fewer posts overall as I refocus on written work. That should help me produce more articles & essays in addition to the show. A new post is coming this weekend, laying out my concerns about the upcoming film Civil War.

If you can join tomorrow for the live show, I’d love to see you there. March 22nd is my birthday! I’m used to working on birthdays — I was anchoring MSNBC the day I turned 40, in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. This time I’m 44, and I appreciate every day on this journey. Whether you can tune in live or not, thanks for giving me so much more to be grateful for in what I hope will be my best year yet.
